The last of the Peterborough sports weekend took me to London Road the home of the Posh, who were due to take on Cardiff City in an Npower Championship clash. It was going to be a big match for both teams on two fronts, Cardiff edging closer to the promise lands of the premier league whilst Posh were trying to rid London road of the prospect of League one football. There was a great atmosphere around the ground, i had the pleasure to hear the Cardiff City fans sitting directly in front of them in the first half whilst wearing a Posh shirt.
The game started very much end to end with chances for both teams but both teams failing to put any of their early chances away. Dwight Gayle tried to claim an early penalty but the claims were turned down the ref. The game was brought to life when Cardiff city opened the scoring from a corner as Ben Turner flicked the ball on and a scrappy placing of the ball in the net allowed Aron Gunnarson to get the first goal of the game. Posh tried to get the crucial equalising goal before the break but Cardiff following on from their goal seemed more likely to score but they went into the half time break 1-0 up.
HT Score: Peterborough United 0-1 Cardiff City
Luckily this half i was in the London Road terrace and a lively Posh team is what came out in the second half dominating the possession at the start but once again they failed to get a goal. Cardiff were still creating chances but couldn't put them away and they were made to rue these missed chances as they gave away a penalty to the Posh as Don Cowie fouled Mark Little in the area. Substitute McCann had only just came on but stepped up to the spot and coolly converted the penalty, and just a few minutes later Dwight Gayle was tripped by Matthew Connolly to give McCann another chance for a goal and once again he scored. Posh now 2-1 up, the game ended dramatically as Posh had a few more chances to score. But Rudy Gestede had too great chances late on but Cardiff fans were to go home disappointed and wondering how they didn't take home the points. Cardiff have not won at London Road since 1986, the Cardiff fans groans, music to the home fans ears.
FT Score: Peterborough United 2-1 Cardiff City

PT 2. Greyhound Racing
Part 2 of the Peterborough sports weekend saw me at the Greyhound stadium with some members of family and friends. A cheap night out for sure at £1 each with many families taken the chance to come and make or break their bank accounts. Studying the Programme to get some idea on who to bet on just made me even more confused. Names are everything when it comes to this sort of thing. I was able to get one winner, winning me a massive £2.50.
There was an enjoyable atmosphere at the Dogs that night with many Kids happily shrieking their dogs on whilst munching on those burgers and chips, made me hungry though. I thought it was a pleasantly cheap night out for everyone. I may be rubbish at but it still gives a lot of fun to all. I got some pictures from the dogs and they are all free to download as ever from my flickr page (link below).

PT 1. Peterborough Panthers
Part 1 of my sports weekend started off at the Speedway match between the Peterborough Panthers and King's Lynn Stars. It was a race which did not live up to my high expectations. This was the first Speedway race which i have seen but i cannot say it was very impressive. £17 for adults to see in the freezing conditions while watching the drivers going around a muddy track.
I now realise that i will not be the biggest Speedway fan there is and that it's not my thing. I did manage to get some pictures at the race which are on my flickr page, all pictures are free to download off there. Next time i would much prefer to watch it at home so i can at least stay warm. It's best i just stick to Football and Rugby, they're a type and i am clearly not it.
I may not like it but as long as it entertains the people who go that surely is the important thing. Peterborough didn't manage to get a win against King's Lynn, losing 40-50 and they play again just a few hours later in the away game.

Mossley vs Salford - Manchester Premier Cup
On a chilly night the ones who braved the cold witnessed an entertaining cup final. The game began with chances for both sides which many fell wide. The first real chance was to come from the penalty spot after Sam Hind was tripped. Gary Gee calmly placed the ball in the back of the net. Cue the Mossley Ultras. For the rest of the first half Mossley dominated the play and possession.
HT Score - Mossley 1-0 Salford
Salford, disappointed by their first half performance, came out in good spirit but their fans were drowned out by the travelling Mossley support. Salford, much more attacking, had quite a few openings but all were covered by the inform Russell Saunders, Mossley were unable to carve open any real chances. Chris browns effort was chalked off but Sam Madeley made no mistake when he slotted home and he celebrated in style. Salford weren't going home without a fight and their efforts were rewarded with several chances but Mossley's keeper kept them in the game as long as he could, until Brad Robinson gave Salford a fighting chance and the equaliser was looming and it came from Danny White. Penalties would decide the game.
FT Score - Mossley 2-2 Salford
ATT: 617
Tense penalties were to decide the game with all the fans excited but nervous about the prospects of penalties but Mossley prevailed as the winner of the game as Ashley young converted their 4th penalty which had won them the Cup.
Mossley win 4-2 on Penalties

Clarence F.C vs Hyde Athletic
A windy day set the scene for the Tameside Sunday league football match between 9th place Clarence F.C and 11th place Hyde Athletic. The tough conditions made it a struggle of a game on a very unflat pitch. The coverage only lasted 40 minutes because of the conditions stated.
The game started with the wind blowing down the pitch, alongside the attack of Hyde athletic. An end to end start to the game resulted in chances for both side until the home team made the break through at around 20 minutes as they looked to make a cross in but it ended up being clipped in to the top left corner. Not many chances after the first goal and the visitors failed to take the opportunities which came their way.
40 minutes score - Clarence 1-0 Hyde
Clarence thump hopeless Hyde!!!
Full time score - Clarence 7-0 Hyde
Attendance: 8 (Eight)

Altrincham Kersal RFC vs Carlisle RFC
Altrincham Kersal entertained Carlisle on a cold day, and the few that turned up saw a tight game between two teams at different ends of the table. Kersal had few opportunities early in the game until they took an interception and scored the opening try of the game, which was converted to give them a 7-0 lead. Then not long later they scored the second taking the few chances that were coming their way to give themselves a solid 12-0 lead, but an under pressure Carlisle scored 2 tries late in to the half to make the scores level at the break.
The close encounter continued in the second half as a try a piece put the score at 17-17 going into the final minutes of the tight affair. Carlisle, playing slightly under par in the kicking department, conceded a late penalty kick which gave struggling Kersal a 20-17 win over the high-flying Carlisle who will be disappointed about their mistakes in the game which allowed AK to get a big win.
