Stockport Sports played host to one of 4 all NWCFL
Premier clashes in which Winsford were the visitors. Winsford’s prospects
pre-season looked bleak losing around 21 players and their manager but their
start to this match would suggest no problems which still exist as they flew
out of the traps and were pressuring the Stockport goal. And it came as no
surprise when the visitors opened the scoring as the on-rushing Callum Tongue
(in net for Stockport) was beaten as the striker squared the ball across the
goal for an easy tap-in goal. 0-1. The second goal came from a low cross and it
was Winsford who bagged the half time lead.
Half-Time Score: Stockport Sports 0-2 Winsford United
The second half brought more out of the Stockport Sports
players as they were chasing the game. The improved performance resulted in
heavy pressure on the visitor’s defence and multiple threats from set pieces.
After 70 minutes Stockport got their just rewards as the corners was whipped in
an a goal-mouth scramble saw the ball cleared from the goal-line and the goal
was given to James McShane. Despite constant attack Stockport couldn’t find the
all-important equaliser.
Winsford go to the preliminary round and will face
Evo-Stik North side Warrington Town away for a place in the 1st
qualifying round.
