Altrincham Kersal were looking for a positive result to
end a string of disappointing results. Early on in the game the visitors took
control of the match and the deadlock was broken promptly, after some early
sustained pressure through a converted try (0-7). It didn’t take long for the
next try as straight from the restart Gareth Tudor placed under the posts for
an easy conversion and 0-14 lead. The action continued with Kersal missing a
penalty when Dave Coleman stepped up after 10 minutes but the match quietened
for 15 minutes until Vale of Lune scored 2 quick tries to give them a demanding
0-26 lead. On the stroke of half-time Kersal had Tony O’Connor Sin-binned.
AK hadn’t really got into to the game offensively due to
the strong defence which the visitors had on display and with the man advantage
the score was due to increase.
Half-Time Score: Kersal 0-26 Vale Of Lune
Kersal once again didn’t start the half well as Dave
Coleman mis-cued a kick and ended up missing the ball allowing Vale to break
and score less than a minute into the second half (0-31). The game became
scrappy many mis-touches and poor passes from both sides. Later in the half the
scrappy and aggressive nature of the game suggested the conflict which was to
occur as a fight broke out between a few players from both sides, reminiscent
of the brawl when Vale of Lune last visited Kersal. This didn’t stop the
confidence of Vale as they scored yet another try which was converted after
some relentless pressure on the Kersal defence. Just 10 minutes later the
visitors scored again as they touch down under the posts for another easy
conversion. Minutes later they scored
again through Adam McLuskie after a long pass and he touches down to leave a
difficult conversion which was skilfully put away (0-52). Kersal got what
something for their efforts late on, a spirited performance but they could only
come away with this try from Tony O’Connor (7-52). The match was finished of
when Vale of Lune scored straight from the restart to end the game with a
confident performance.
Full-Time Score: Kersal 7-59 Vale of Lune
Kersal were beaten by a very strong Vale of Lune side who
strung some slick passes together but the scoreline suggests a hapless home
performance but the rugged determination allowed Kersal to score late on even
they were well behind.
